23rd Century Productions will now be at the helm of the science-fiction roleplaying game’s design and production.
June 1, 2017—SSDC, Inc. and 23rd Century Productions have joined forces to release an updated version of Battlelords of the Twenty-Third Century®, the science fiction roleplaying game (RPG) acquired by SSDC in 1999.
On May 30, 2017, the two companies entered into a licensing agreement that places stewardship of the Battlelords game system into the capable and enthusiastic hands of the 23rd Century Productions team. Meanwhile, SSDC retains the rights to the Battlelords brand, license, and intellectual property, including (but not limited to) non-game related items, such as novels, webcomics, and other scripted creations.
SSDC’s founders Michael Osadciw and Aaron Thies will offer their input in an active advisory role as 23rd Century Productions handles the game system’s updates, production, and management; Osadciw will also continue creating art for the game. Together, the two teams will co-administer the game’s current Facebook page.
“23rd Century Productions has been involved with the Battlelords game since the early 1990s, and has been one of our premiere play test groups throughout the years,” says Osadciw. “We’re excited to partner with people who share our commitment to—and vision for—the Battlelords universe. They have a plan for streamlining and improving the game, one they intend to share in the near future.”
The pen-and-paper Battlelords RPG was designed by Lawrence R. Sims and first published in 1990. Today, the game—which features an active online community—has thousands of fans around the world who share an interest in the game’s aim of “roleplaying in a dangerous future.”
